The painting depicts a face surrounded by hands that form a tight ring, depriving it of air. These hands take away all of its free space. One hand scratches, another strangles, a third caresses, a fourth wants to strike, and a fifth seems ready to tear out a piece. There is a direct sense of threat. Looking at the face, one feels hopelessness. There is no way out because the character’s boundaries have been completely violated. The sickly eyes and heavy gaze confirm this state. The painting can provoke physical discomfort, as if everything is happening to you in real life — even though such a situation is difficult to imagine literally. The color palette also suggests that there is no place for love or warmth in this image, only a calm and cold acceptance of the inevitable. There is a feeling that this person has lived with these experiences for a long time, perhaps even their entire life. This state has become so habitual that they no longer try to resist. The strong face we see has endured a great deal. Yet it is not broken: it looks at us with calmness and composure. And the most frightening thing is its certainty that tomorrow will be the same, and nothing will change.
